Introduction

I’m Kyla Cunningham and I’m an 11th grader here at Cedar Grove. I’m currently employed at Popeyes. When not at school or work I’m most likely binge watching any show on Netflix or Disney+. Another of my hobbies is writing. I write anything, from goals to budgets. Writing helps me think clearly, and i also do it just to improve my penmanship. This year I expect the same things from myself as all previous years, good grades and a full understanding of all of the criteria.

Reflection 1-10-22

Today in class we learned about rhetorical devices. The first one we discussed was hyperbole, which is an exaggeration. The second was understatement. An understatement is the force of a descriptive statement that is less than what one would normally expect. Third we went over litotes, which are an emphasis on a point by using a word opposite to the condition. Fourth we learned antithesis, this makes use of a contrast in language to bring out a contrast in ideals. Lastly we were introduced to hypophora which is  asking a question then proceeding to answer it.

Reflection: 8-13-21

Today’s class was lack luster. We didn’t do anything interactive. We started class off with an assessment on terms we haven’t looked at or thought about since writing them in our notebooks. Since I did do a bit of cram studying I think I did pretty well on the test. After completing this test we did a pre-test. This test wasn’t very hard either, it was boring though. I also didn’t get to complete my extended response question.

Today in class we learned about writing rhetoric analysis. In a rhetorical analysis paper you identify different rhetorical devices and identify the effectiveness of them. The different  devices to choose from are ethos, logos, and pathos. In an rhetorical analysis essays you answer the question why, how, what. We also learned how to form a thesis in a rhetorical analysis. You do this by stating  the authors name, adding an adjective, rhetorical strategies, strong verb, and function.
