Today in class I attempted to read the first chapter of Wild. I say this because before I even finished the first sentence I was asleep. This nap was very needed. Once I woke up I read the prologue. In the prologue you get a sense that she went through a lot of trauma. I'm excited to get into the first chapter.
Today in class we learned about rhetorical devices. The first one we discussed was hyperbole, which is an exaggeration. The second was understatement. An understatement is the force of a descriptive statement that is less than what one would normally expect. Third we went over litotes, which are an emphasis on a point by using a word opposite to the condition. Fourth we learned antithesis, this makes use of a contrast in language to bring out a contrast in ideals. Lastly we were introduced to hypophora which is asking a question then proceeding to answer it.
