Today in class we continued to go over rhetorical devices. We started with rhetorical questions. Rhetorical questions are questions where the answers are implied. An example is your girlfriend asking, "do you love me"? Next we went over Procatalepsis. Procatalepsis are making objections without asking a questions. Today's class was good, we discussed many controversial topics in the process.
Today in class we learned about rhetorical devices. The first one we discussed was hyperbole, which is an exaggeration. The second was understatement. An understatement is the force of a descriptive statement that is less than what one would normally expect. Third we went over litotes, which are an emphasis on a point by using a word opposite to the condition. Fourth we learned antithesis, this makes use of a contrast in language to bring out a contrast in ideals. Lastly we were introduced to hypophora which is asking a question then proceeding to answer it.
