Today in class we went over a letter. From the letter we began to form a rhetorical analysis essay. First we read the letter. Then we used a SoapsTone graphic organizer to analyze the letter. Next we formed a theis statement. After this we began to create the body paragraphs.
Today in class we learned about rhetorical devices. The first one we discussed was hyperbole, which is an exaggeration. The second was understatement. An understatement is the force of a descriptive statement that is less than what one would normally expect. Third we went over litotes, which are an emphasis on a point by using a word opposite to the condition. Fourth we learned antithesis, this makes use of a contrast in language to bring out a contrast in ideals. Lastly we were introduced to hypophora which is asking a question then proceeding to answer it.
